Laura Pérez Cervera is an Assistant Professor (Professora Lectora) in the Department of Economics at Universitat Rovira i Virgili. She obtained her PhD in Economics from Queen Mary University of London in 2025. During her doctoral studies, she undertook a research visit at the Vancouver School of Economics (University of British Columbia).
She is an applied microeconomist with research interests in political economy and its intersections with development and media economics. Her work focuses on questions of social justice and political incentives. In particular, her current research examines the political consequences of affirmative action policies, strategies to address disparities in political representation, and how political incentives shape the provision of public goods.
In 2025, she received an Honorable Mention in the IDB Young Economist Award for her paper "Affirming a Racial Divide? The Political Consequences of Affirmative Action in Brazil" .
