Maria José Pérez has been professor in the Department of Economics at the Rovira i Virgili University since 1989. She graduated in Economics and Business from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and, in 1999, she obtained her doctorate from the University of Barcelona (UB) with a thesis on pension system reform. She was Secretary of the Department of Economics from 2009 to 2017.
Her research interests focus on international economics, gender discrimination and inequality, and especially the economics of health and aging.
