ECONOMIC CHALLENGES FOR THE NEXT GENERATION (ECO-NEXT)
The Economic Challenges for the Next Generation (ECO-NEXT) research group, which brings
together much of the research capacity of the Department of Economics, has as its main
objective to offer new scientific knowledge regarding two major economic challenges for
future generations: Socio-Economic Welfare and Economic Transformation. Each of these
challenges has several interconnected dimensions that are the focus of ECO-NEXT.
In particular, the analysis of Socio-Economic Welfare looks at the following areas:
- Discrimination and Social Conflict
- Economics of Education and the Labour Market
- Environmental Economics
- Fiscal and Monetary Policy
- Health Economics and Social Protection
- Immigration, Political Economy and Economic Inequality
The challenge of Economic Transformation looks at the areas of:
- Energy Economics
- Industrial Organisation
- Innovation Economics
- Transport Economics
- Regional and Urban Economics
The team integrates expertise in economic theory and empirical economics, which allows
theoretical and applied analysis to be combined through bilateral/trilateral/multilateral co-
authorships between members, in conjunction with external collaborations.
